NDOC and TVETs Partner to Strengthen Disaster Risk Management Capacity
On 3rd February 2026, the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC) hosted a strategic meeting at its boardroom to advance collaboration with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) capacity building.
The meeting brought together the Director of NDOC, the Director of TVETs, Mr. Tom Olang’o, and Mr. Jesse Ithai, Data Officer at NDOC.
Key Discussions
The deliberations focused on strengthening disaster preparedness across TVET institutions nationwide. Key areas of discussion included:
Conducting a comprehensive assessment of disaster preparedness levels in TVET institutions
Identifying existing gaps and addressing them through targeted sensitisation programmes
Developing dedicated DRM and emergency response curricula at both certificate and diploma levels
Agreed Way Forward
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to jointly develop structured DRM training programmes for formal integration into TVET courses. As an immediate next step, institutional assessments will commence to inform curriculum development and capacity-building interventions.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward enhancing resilience within technical and vocational institutions, ensuring that learners are equipped with practical skills in disaster preparedness and emergency response.
